Holistic Nutrition

Holistic nutrition. It's in our name. It's what our program was built on. But what makes it special and does being "holistic" really make a difference? Let's break it down.

What does holistic mean?

In order to understand holistic nutrition, we must first understand the meaning of holistic. Holistic can be defined as considering all parts of the whole. Instead of separating areas and examining these individually, holistic means acknowledging the connections that work together to form the whole entity.

In holistic (or preventive) nutrition, this means we do not keep food and lifestyle separated, but instead focus on how food, movement, and thoughts impact the mind, body, and spirit. Holistic nutrition aims to achieve optimal health in all aspects of life including physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.

Does being 'holistic' really make a difference?

The main goal of holistic nutrition is to help individuals live long, healthy lives through nutrition and lifestyle changes. The interconnected systems of the body should be viewed as a whole and food should be viewed in the same way.

Nutrition advocate Michael Pollan believes that one of the most simple and important aspects of health is to eat real food. Focus should be placed on the food as a whole instead of on individual nutrients because foods are greater than the sum of their parts.

Integrated, holistic approaches to wellness, weight-loss, and lifestyle behaviors are effective in generating lasting changes. When the body is considered as a whole and whole foods are encouraged, quality of life is improved. When education of healthy behaviors and nutrition is included, the results are even greater.

Where can I start?

Start by making a small, achievable goal. This can simply be having the goal to add one serving of vegetables to every meal in one day. Once you've achieved that goal for a week, you can continue moving up from there by aiming for two servings of vegetables at every dinner. Another goal could be meditating for 5 minutes every other day.

Small changes can have a lasting impact and will make the shift into a new, healthier lifestyle. Our program generates achievable, customized targets for you, with resources to help you track and stay on top of your goals. We support you throughout the process and highlight your achievements. To join our tribe, visit this page for our package options.
